Malware warnings: false positives. And Happy Pentecost Monday!

Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry: Pentecost

I am VERY happy to report that we have identified the source of the virus warnings some readers were getting while visiting this blog. The site itself is clean, as we thought, but a line of code had been embedded into my footer in early May to ward off the effects of the worm that had infected thousands of sites hosted at Godaddy. It was that protective script which, paradoxically, set off anti-virus programs and triggered those alarms. My very special thanks go to David at Sucuri Security and Mike at Planet Russell for giving my site much personal attention yesterday, on Whit Sunday too. This code has been removed, but we will continue combing the site for any remaining triggers.

In the meantime, I have put in place the following security measures:

1. I have moved the blog away from Godaddy last week, thus narrowly escaping yet another round of hacking there (the 4th in one month!)

2. This site is now monitored on an hourly basis by Sucuri Security.

Most of all, I wish to thank those readers who alerted me to the anti-virus warnings. If these crop up again, please let me know.

And happy Pentecost Monday! The illustration is by Jean Colombe, from the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry.

Thanks, Carlyn and Mike! I did switch to WordPress around March 24. Indeed, Mike, I googled my latest posts and they came up in searches.

  2. Carlyn, thanks for your response. There’s no cause for concern, however. Google is actively indexing both the main website, as well as the Versailles and More blog, including this current post that we are commenting on. Please see:

  3. Catherine, I had a similar problem last month. I am not sure if it is related but I think when a blog gets flagged as being spammy, google blog search stops indexing it. I did a check in google blog search ( you just type in site: and your blog has not been indexed since March 24th. This just means that people doing a search for a particular topic will not pull up your blog. The end result is less traffic to your blog.

I am not a technical person at all. So I really don’t know the reason for this. It just seems like a lot of blogs are having this problem.

Google stopped indexing my blog around the 24th too. very strange. I applied for a “site reconsideration”. go to:

    step 1. Add your site
step 2. apply for a reconsideration
    step 3. wait….

But I have heard this can take up to six weeks!

I am happy for you and may all the possible blog issues be over.

So it is a Christian holiday that just ended. the Jews just celebrated their
holiday of weeks. Easter also seems to also arrive near Passover. yet they are not set
    on the same calendar.

The artwork is lovely as usual.
