After indispensable restoration work, the statue returns to its original spot. This is a mature Louis XIV, at his most majestic.

For more information, I refer you to this excellent article in the Art Tribune. The scaffolding will remain in place until the official inauguration on June 25.

And while you are on the topic of Versailles news, let’s not forget the Court Pomp and Royal Ceremonies exhibit, until June 28. I do not want to miss this show, which I will see in the coming weeks. I will report on it here, of course.

Felio – Certainly this exhibition seems gorgeous. At least you will get to see the statue free from the scaffoding!

Miss Kris – Always, always a reason to revisit Versailles.

    Hi Catherine!

What a BEAUTIFUL statue!!! Such details. Oooo I love that those are plans to the Palace! I am like Judith though, another reason to go back and visit Versailles…just so much to see. I think I would need to plan a month to see everything there.

    Miss Kris

What fabulous news. It’s a absolutely gorgeous statue. I can’t believe I’m going to miss the Court Pomp and Royal Ceremonies exhibition too.

  4. Catherine Delors says:

Penny – Yes, the parchment is symbolic. I suppose these are the plans to the Palace.

Judith – From the comments of the Art Tribune, it appears to be a totally successful restoration. The frame of the statue was totally rusted through.

Thanks to both of you for your kind comments!

HI Catherine! Yet another wonderful reason to go visit Versailles! Last time I saw him he was dripping with Patina and not half as beautiful as this! It’s amazing…you can see the veins in the horses stomach. Just glorious. Fitting for such a glorious place!
    BEautiful post!
