Fairy Tale Week at Wonders & Marvels

Perrault_fairy_tales_Puss-in_bootsI promise, Holly and I did not consult in advance about this, but what can I say? Great minds think alike, and we discovered that we were both posting about Charles Perrault and his fairy tales at the same time.

Indeed if you call at the famous Wonders and Marvels blog, Holly is having a fairy tale week, during which you can win, among other treats… a copy of the Oxford University Press edition of Monsieur Perrault’s Complete Tales.

As for me, I am still working on a new post, this time on Perrault’s Peau d’âne (Donkeyskin), my own personal favorite.

I am delighted to hear you enjoy these so much, Penny! These stories have indeed many layers, so what you read into them as an adult was probably put there by Monsieur Perrault. Don’t be afraid of letting them carry you where you think they are leading you.

My copy of the Complete Fairy Tales came yesterday. Oh what a lovely trip down memory lane the first ones were and some seem to be political and maybe I am reading too much into it but maybe sexual as well? I stand corrected if I am over reading/imaging things. But I am glad for having them again in my library. Whatever copies of fairy tales I might have had back in my late childhood, my brother took when he moved out and set up a library for his young son. Without my permission I might add :-(

I would give fairy tales another try, Penny. You might discover things that eluded you as a child. Why this Oxford edition of Perrault’s tales? You might even win it at Wonders & Marvels…

Here’s to new stories all right, and old ones as well.

Thank You. Brings back some really pleasant childhood memories. I think it is so true, youth is wasted on the young. I would love to go back in time and reread my childhood favorites but then again there really isn’t anything
stopping me now and it is a Jewish holiday. thanks. Oh and this is the second time i have tried to post. I do not know what I am doing wrong or if it is the laptop.
Looking forward to the next fairy tale. From what I just read, it is one I don’t recall. Here’s to new stories.
