I wish I lived closer to NY because I would definitely love to see the exhibit! I think Jane Austen would be highly amused at the level of fame she is enjoying currently and the way in which her fans are showing their appreciation for her work. From what remains of her letters and the glimpses of her we get through her writing leads me to believe she had a quirky sense of humor that would allow her to enjoy it immensely. Well, that is what I like to think!

Thanks for this wonderful tour through the exhibit. I'm not going to be able to make it, though I wanted to view it. She is - of course! LOL - one of my absolute favorites. Can a summer pass without reading at least one Austin?!

Now I'm off to follow the links to read more about the exhibit.

I like the new design especially if it is going to load faster. And I agree with everything Helena said. I just wish my first attempt to post it here had not been disregarded by your software.

Many thanks! And not only does the layout look better, but it is much faster for me to use. It should also load much faster.

Helena, I too will be sorry to see La Conciergerie go, but we had to reduce the height of the header to a minimum to accommodate 7 posts. You may not see it on the reduced image I posted, but the header and footer will feature the same damask pattern as the blue background. It is very discrete and thus doesn't compete with the post images, as La Conciergerie would have done.

Tristan, I made this birdie with my own hands from an 18th century print! Delighted to hear it meets with your approval.
As for the switch to WordPress, it sounded like a huge hurdle, but the old template had become a straightjacket. I felt I needed more freedom if I wanted to take the blog to the next level. Now I realize I have also have a much better productivity with WordPress.
Love the new layout - it really showcases your content. It's very clear and attractive. Only thing is I would be sad to see the Conciergerie picture disappear totally. Maybe it could be a watermark image in the header?

Sounds like a wonderful evening!

I love the Room of One's Own essays. What a good idea to use the Austen one as an introduction to her work.

The upside of the flu is that you can get some reading done! I read both of Anne Bronte's novels for the first time while I was recovering from the flu.
